Small Childminding - Torquay

Hello! Thanks for visiting the Small Childminding website

Welcome to my website! Finding childcare can be a daunting prospect, especially with so many options, but one of the main advantages of a childminder is the consistency of care and the focus that we are able to give your child. If you choose to place your child in to my care, I can guarantee that they will receive plenty of love, care and attention in a clean, friendly, comfortable home, with lots of learning and development opportunities. I am open from 7:30am to 6pm and am happy to discuss any other requirements. I usually offer term time only contracts but am happy to provide holiday care on an ad-hoc basis.

All under 5's are cared for following the Early years Foundation Stage (the EYFS) as required by Ofsted. The Eyfs follows four main principles;

Each child is a Unique Child - Every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.

Positive Relationships -  Children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships.

Enabling Environments - The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.

Learning And Development -  Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates and all areas of Learning and Development are equally important and interconnected.

Who we are

I'm a qualified, Ofsted registered childminder, with plenty of childcare and education experience. I have three children of my own and have spent ten years working in both primary and secondary schools from EYFS right up to year 11, before becoming a childminder in 2018. I have also been a children's party entertainer for the last twelve years, offering discos, games and lots of fun.

I offer high quality, home-from home, flexible childcare for children of all ages based in Ellacombe in Torquay. I can also offer school drop-offs and pick ups from Ellacombe Academy.

My Qualifications:

  • Level three Home Based Child Care Award
  • Paediatric First Aid
  • BA Theatre and Performance

What we do

Each day here has a well balanced mixture of child-led and adult-led play. There is always a wide selection of activities and toys for the children to explore, from sensory play such as sand, water, jelly or cornflour, to construction with our huge box of duplo. We also love baking and quite often make yummy things to have for lunch or take home!

I like to take the children out as often as possible, whether to local parks, beaches or woods to help promote their physical development and understanding of the world, playgroups for enhancing their social skills or the zoos and other local attractions to give them new opportunities to understand the world and explore new things. We also meet up with other childminders to help the children make and play with new friends.

Our childcare setting

My childcare setting is based in our family home, with a bright, large play room, garden and patio play spaces, lots of opportunities to interact with our furry and fishy pets and learn as we play.

My playroom is on the bottom floor of our three storey house and opens on to our secure garden which has a fenced in, flat, artificially grassed area to allow outside play all year round. We have water and sand play outside and a tuff tray that is regulary used for all types of sensory and small world play, both indoor and outdoor. I am also fully equipped for babies under a year old, with high chairs, travel cots and early stage toys.
